Eight is Great

Birthdays at our house are cause for great celebration.  I love the mixing of traditions from Joe's family and mine to pass on fun days for our kiddos.  We start each birthday with a lavish breakfast in bed of the celebrated person's choosing (a time-honored Mommy family tradition).  Beanie decided she wanted everything for the day to be blue; breakfast was blueberry waffles, blueberry bagel with blueberry cream cheese, blue moon milkshake (which we actually forgot - oops!), and blueberry toaster strudel.  She was so dang excited about her birthday that she was up around 5:30 a.m. shaking with excitement.  The celebration of her 8th year started out excellent, lying in our bed, watching movies and eating her blueness breakfast. 

She then got to open her first gift of the day and later opened her card from Mamaw with a gift she had been very excited about (a definite Daddy family tradition - getting things people want and LOVE!!!) while Skyping; all before 8 a.m. 

 She played hooky from school (a definite Mommy-side tradition!) and came with me to class.  While she was not quite too excited about listening to medical terminology, she did have a great time hidden away behind chairs coloring and drawing during the hour.  The students all loved having her in there and she got a few birthday wishes.  We had a great birthday lunch together on our drive home from school.

She had a few phone calls from family members wishing her Happy B-day.

The favorite dinner of choice is a tradition from both families, one loved by all of us!  The blueness continued with blue macaroni and cheese, veggie hot dogs, and blue milk. 

A new tradition was started this year thanks to Mommy forgetting to wrap presents and Daddy being ever so clever and quick thinking; the Birthday Present Game Show!  With numbers on the door, the game show contestant, i.e. the Birthday Princess, got to pick what pile of presents to see behind Door Number 1, Door Number 2, and Door Number 3.  She was allowed one pick of her own, one pick from the audience members, and one pick from the numbers behind the back.  We all had great fun as Daddy hosted the game and the Birthday Princess was all giggles picking her doors. 

The day ended with some yummy cake with blue icing and great big smiles from the little princess.
